SteriPEN Solar Charging Case Review

SteriPEN Solar Charging Case
Average Reviews:

The rechargeable batteries in four of these recently purchased units do not provide their stated capacity. They have much lower capacity than their stated 900 mAh, and 3 of 8 batteries did not retain a charge even several days without use.

Instead of the Steripen-estimated 35 1-liter purification cycles per battery charge, I got 15.This battery capacity might continuously provide only 3 purified liters per day when solar charging.More details in the report at:

Slendertone Unisex System Abs Toning Belt Review

Slendertone Unisex System Abs Toning Belt
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I know the way these products are advertised make you think that they will make a fat person thin, but they don't. It gave good ab definition, but left the layer of fat until i worked out. It did speed up the process giving better and quicker ab results than I normally do when I only work out after a good winter hibernation. Before I had a little roll by my lower abs that I could never get rid off and now it's gone. It didn't happen overnight, been using it regularly for the past 2 months. Really saw results after 3-4 weeks, but started working out daily after the second week of owning. Ab workouts also felt easier.
Other info you should know that I couldn't find much info on before buying... The gel pads (I found) do have to be replaced every 35-40 uses. It also really helps to shave the abdominal area where you are using the pads as it improves pad life and effectiveness. I remember someone saying that the charger plug is flimsy; I didn't find it to be flimsy at all. It uses a SATA type connector that you would find on a computer or hard drive.
I would like to find out from anyone if the connector works on the bicep tricep attatchment.

Product Description:
Whether you're a casual exerciser, a senior, a fitness enthusiast, or someone facing physical challenges, the Slendertone System Abs Toning Belt (unisex) can help you build a stronger core foundation. Simply follow the 30-day toning plan for 30 minutes, five times a week to develop your abdominal strength, muscle mass, and power. Discreet, comfortable and easy to use, the Slendertone System slimline belt enables you to build power abs anytime--at home, while working at the office, out the garden, etc.
The rechargeable, handheld System Controller plugs into the toning belt and displays information on toning programs, time and intensity all in the palm of your hand. It features seven toning programs, up to 99 intensity levels, and warm-up and cool-down phases. It's backed by a two-year warranty.
Slendertone uses clinically proven Electronic Muscle Stimulation (EMS) technology to firm, tone and strengthen your entire midsection. Signals are sent between the pads, engaging the nerves that control your muscles and causing them to contract naturally. It targets not just the muscles you can see, but also the muscles that are more difficult to reach with conventional exercise. The rectus abdominis (abs), obliques (which shape the waist) and the transversus abdominis are all activated. This last is the deepest of the abdominal muscles and wraps around the abdomen like a corset. It is essential for stability in the lower back region and is very difficult to reach with conventional exercise.
Used regularly (as little as 30 minutes a day) in conjunction with a healthy diet and some moderate exercise, you will notice results within four weeks. You can wear the Slendertone System belt when you just don't have time in your hectic schedule to hit the gym or go for a run, or wear it during your workout for added emphasis.
Features

Firm your midsection with clinically demonstrated Electronic Muscle Stimulation (EMS) technology
Tone your muscles while doing other activities--from cardio exercises to household chores
Use 4 to 5 times a week for stronger, firmer abs in 4 to 8 weeks

Crosman R71, Clear and Black airsoft gun Review

Crosman R71, Clear and Black airsoft gun
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
OK, so this was my first gun I ever got.I bought it at wal-mart.First off this was very surprising.I expected a crappy little gun, but this was nothing like that.It is clear but i used electric tape and taped it all up now it looks like a real MP5.

Pros:

-Lightweight
-Good rate of fire (5 bb's/sec 300bb/min)
-Magazine holds almost 500 bb's
-Good fps for the price (I've clocked it at up to 255 fps)
-Comes with silencer
-Removable stock
-Looks impressive

Cons:

-No scope (The scope it the magazine)
-The bb's sometimes get clogged up while they're dropping into the gun to shoot and you have to shake the gun.
-Not very good range (25-50 ft)
-Can be pretty inaccurate
-Only uses .12 (.20 will drop 10 ft in front of the gun)

Overall I would recommend this gun to a beginner, but only as a first gun or maybe a second.

Currently I have the Well R6E M4A1, and I would recommend it.But it's $100.

Tennis Tutor Jr. w/Oscillator Battery (EA) Review

Tennis Tutor Jr. w/Oscillator Battery
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have one of these at the public court where I play.It gets a fair amount of use and works as advertised.Delivers balls consistently, though sometimes the oscillator (backhand-to-forehand) is a bit dodgy. There is no remote control so you switch it on and then run over to the other side of the court to hit.Likewise, you can't switch it off from the other side of the court if you want to, for example, clear away balls from the court.Though a friend or coach could hit the switch for you.
Though it's light enough for one person to move around, it's bulky and easier with a friend. The only benefit of the boxy, wheeless, configuration is that it doesn't move around the court.
The white panels that comprise the hopper fold down flat when not in use.

Izzo's Swami GPS Unit Review

Izzo's Swami GPS Unit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This device basically does one thing, and does it well:displays distance to the green. One of the four buttons, labeled FCB, cycles through the distance to Front, Center, and Back of the green, so it is possible to determine depth of the green as the difference between front and back. The other three buttons are on/off, next hole, and previous hole. There's no touchscreen, scorekeeping, weather reporting, etc.

This is my evaluation, based on limited (several rounds) experience:

Pros
+ Simple and effective
+ Accurate (within a couple yards of on-course markers and center of green)
+ Good battery life (at least 4 rounds per charge)
+ Includes AC/USB adapter (computer not required to charge the device)
+ Large LCD display; numbers easily seen at a glace
+ No issues with software, setup, course selection, downloading
+ Good value, considering base price and $10 annual data fee

Neutral
o Plastic belt clip - I wonder how long until it breaks
o Overall size is not small, though effective use of front surface space with the LCD and buttons.
o Ten (10) course capacity is reasonable

Cons
- A bit thick: almost 1" at widest point on the belt clip.
- USB/charging port is not protected. What will happen when it gets wet?
- It only goes in the belt clip in one direction. If worn on the belt, you look at the numbers and controls upside down.Or, if clipped upside down, there is the risk is falls off the belt or out of the clip.

Uniden 5.8GHz Expandable Water-Submersible Handset Phone with Call Waiting/Caller ID Review

Uniden 5.8GHz Expandable Water-Submersible Handset Phone with Call Waiting/Caller ID
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Compared to the previous model, WXI377, which I've owed for over two years, this model fulfilled most of my wishes what the older model lacked...

For example, 5.8GHz digital spread spectrum is much more secure than the old 900MHz analog. Now the keyboard is also backlighted as well as the display. The onboard speaker is nice and comes in handy. You can expand the phone to have more handset(TWX977 will give you the very same handset) and have features like transferring a call, page, intercom and conferencing, etc. Phonebook has much larger capacity, and now you can store two numbers per name, and personalize the ring tone...

Some same old problems still exist. The old WXI377 when it was submerged in bathtub, the cavity around the earpiece speaker would be filled with water that blocked the sound.I had to shake it vigorously get the water out, otherwise the volume would so low it was hard to hear the other party. The new model is still the same way, and shaking the water out would take more effort, seems to me.The chain dialing still only works when in a call(when you are connected, you can bring up the phonebook and dial another number.Works well for dialing a phone card access number first, then the real phone number from your phonebook). If you start by keying in a few digits, like "#0P"(I have a 2-line switch, #0 will access my other line. P is for a 1-second pause), you can't get in the phonebook and bring up another number onto the screen to concatenate them together then dial all at once...

The one area it screwed up is the redial number. On the old phone when you display the number by pressing Redial, you can hit Delete button to delete the last digit by each press. So you can edit the number by getting rid of the extra digits last time you entered when on hold and "press 1 go to this menu" or "press 2 for voicemail", etc.The new model does not allow you to edit the redial number.Hit Delete will wipe out the the entire line. This is the only problem I can remember now, that doesn't exist on the old model before...

UPDATE 6/22/08: If you want to expand, you don't have to buy the TWX977 Accessory Handset.Just buy another one of this, then set the base to a dumb charging station just like the TWX977, and deregister then register with the existing base (this what I've done.I've got two of these, ready to get a third one now). This way, if your old WXI477's base goes south, you can activate the other(though charging will be a minor problem, as you'd be left with one base and two handsets. But the system will still be functioning/limping.)My first was bought a year ago and second in Feburary of '08.So far, the first one's rubber piece surrounding the display, has deteriorated to make the two look not just half a year apart, but more like a couple years of use.The oil on my face has caused this, though I don't feel like I got particularly greasy face...

Echo 1 E-90 AEG Full Metal Receiver airsoft gun Review

Echo 1 E-90 AEG Full Metal Receiver airsoft gun
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
(I'm her son) This gun rocks!I've been playing airsoft for about 5 years now with a lot of friends and I have to say I've only ever seen 1 other electric gun that was as good as this and thats the Kraken Aftermath.Yet unless you have a real feddish for AKs I would go with this since its close quarters style is more practical for airsoft. My friends really hate me using this thing on them.

PROS:
STYLE - compact so corners and close quarters are manuverable and surprisingly comfy on your shoulder
FPS - will leave welts at a normal range (normal range to me is anywhere from 25 meters and closer)
ACCURACY - I'll leave it at this I don't leave many welts on my buds since you can use it as a sniper rifle and they will still know they have been hit at its maximum range (my friends play 3 shot kill)
BATTERY - charges for 3.6 hours to be full but runs for 8 hours if you don't just randomly let off automatic fire every 2 seconds
ROF - if someone needs covering fire they've got it, you could hold off three guys together as long as they're in the same general direction
MORE - unlike some other AEGs I've worked with semi works just as well as auto in accuracy and range

CONS:
CLIPS - it comes with 2 which is nice but 68 rounds flies by, I got a 300 round clip which isn't hard to find and I've never had a problem with ammo since, (the instructions with the gun are for a 300 rd clip)
GREAT GUN!

I have been using this light for over a month. I use it for a road bike mostly on country roads to help me see and be seend mostly early morning rides (dark fading to dawn). It is nothing short of incredible! The NiteRider TriNewt LED headlight blew my mind! It is so bright! 20 mph at night? No problem! It is strong enough you can actually see the road and obstacles at quite some distance. It also has a setting for strobe flashing which I use for visibility during the day. It actually gets the attention of drivers who normally can't see me in spite of being 6'3", all dressed in red or bright yellow. They see me now! Small, compact, easily installed, and a battery life at least what they claim! How can you not love it?! I would recommend it to both serious poor light road cyclists, and a cheap life insurance for commmuters.Fingers crossed for long-term durability.

MP5 Airsoft did not work when it was charged right out of the box and Airsplat customer service seems to hide behind an e-mail system with no live telephone support [I tried for several days during their stated Pacific time of operations and only got a message saying to e-mail concerns because they are closed]. Not impressed with a company that claims to be so large. They claim returns must be made within 3 days of receipt and the return authorization must be done online. Garmin Forerunner 310XT Waterproof Running GPS With Heart Rate Monitor Review

Garmin Forerunner 310XT Waterproof Running GPS With Heart Rate Monitor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I felt compelled to write a review, because I am disturbed with what some other reviewers are publishing. This is the best watch of it's kind I have owned, and as long as a purchaser understands what it does, and it's limitations, I think they will be more than satisfied. It may be that this watch will not meet their needs, but it should not be a cause to deliver a poor rating.
I have owned the Forerunner 305, the 201, the Timex GPS and a Polar, so I have years of experience. Since I do triathlons, I was most looking forward to the waterproof controls, and 20 hour battery. The charger is a bit funky design, but for me it seems to work just fine. My battery has been lasting at least 16 hours--I haven't tested it further before recharging. One issue that I had with the 305 also, though: the watch should be TURNED OFF while you are charging. If not, as soon as you disconnect the charger, since the watch is ON, it will start "discharging" (as it does normally while it is on. I have been caught several times with a depleted battery on my 305 because of this quirk--I think the watches should be programmed to automatically turn themselves off when the charger is connected).
I have used the new watch swimming, biking and running and hiking, and I am pleased with the performance for each sport. One reviewer pointed out that there should be a "swim" mode--I agree, but I think Garmin may have avoided that mode because the GPS does not work well in the water. Several reviewers complained about that, however Garmin does write on their website AND in their manual that the GPS does not work well in the water (I don't know that I would blame that on Garmin--probably the technology is just not there yet--besides, GPS signals do not penetrate water.) In fact, I did NOT get an accurate GPS distance reading for open water swimming, but it did map my COURSE correctly, albeit with a lot of zig-zags (I know I can't swim in a straight line, but I am not THAT bad).
The biking portion works great. The Garmin matches pretty closely with the distance measured on my bike computer (I don't have the Garmin bike sensor--I want that and the quick-release mount for my next birthday). Of course it also tracks speed, altitude, heart rate, etc. (I used the heart monitor strap from my 305).
Running works well also, basically same as biking although I do set up the display screens differently.
Other, useful new features I have noticed:
1. The watch locks onto satellites more quickly than my 305
2. The watch vibrates, although I wonder how this affects battery life. For instance it vibrates every lap (if I set it) so I know I have completed an autolap without having to look at the watch.
3. The software is more refined (lots of small fixes. For instance the settings function lets me know what sport mode I am in--although I think this could still be made easier and less confusing. And the time zone can be put on automatic--I always wondered why they couldn't do this before--the watch knows where it is for gosh sakes. And there are extra custom screens if you want them--statistic hounds take note.)
4. Wireless data upload. Very nice! Their new "Garmin Connect" site is also pretty useful, and the data can be uploaded directly to the Internet.
5. The 310XT is not much smaller or lighter than the 305 (according to the specs), but it FEELS MUCH smaller and lighter.
6. There is a progress bar for the battery charging. I would like to be able to see how much time is LEFT in my battery--I wish Garmin would add this.

In summary, I think this is far and away the best GPS watch Garmin has made, and is especially appropriate for triathletes (despite the swimming issue). You DO need to become accustomed to using the watch. Although I do not think it is hard to use, you SHOULD read the manual. At least you do not have to keep RE-reading the manual like I do for some other gadgets. I do think this watch is way overpriced, but I am a gadget freak, and I'm sure the price will come down over time, like it did for the 305 (which is a great deal, now, btw, if you don't need a 20 hour battery-life and a waterproof stopwatch :)

GolfLogix Garmin GPS Review

GolfLogix Garmin GPS
Average Reviews:

I had one of the early models made by SkyCaddie, and this device is far superior. It's easier to use, holds 20 downloaded courses (as opposed to 10), finds the course you are at (as opposed to scrolling through a list), is waterproof (as opposed to water resistant), cost far less to get a one year membership to downloadable courses, and turns on in seconds with distances (as opposed to minutes). The 2008 model measures the distance from your last shot so you can tell how far you are hitting each club.

It's very easy to use.Just turn it on.I had no trouble downloading the courses, and I am a Mac user with the Mac Leopard operating system. The Garmin algorithn for finding distances is quick and accurate.

I really like it and can't imaging playing golf without it!

Nicely compact in your hand, it weighs 5.3 ounces with batteries and measures 1.2 inches thin. The case is 100 percent waterproof (submersible in water per IPX7 standard tests) and is shock-proof and impact-resistant for rugged outdoor use. The large LCD screen (1.25 by 2.25 inches) has a 64 x 128 pixel resolution and features excellent visibility in direct sunlight with adjustable screen contrasts and backlight screen setting for dark playing conditions.
Wherever you are on the course, GolfLogix displays the key distances to hazards and the green in big bold numbers all on a sleek black palm-sized device. The screen advances automatically to all of the targets on the golf course so there are no buttons to push or lasers to point during your round. The GolfLogix GPS-8 can store the following data on each hole: front/center/back of green; hazards; bunkers; water; lay-ups; and carries.

Easily download course data using the GolfLogix software, and store up to 20 courses in the GPS-8 at one time. The included, simple-to-use software lets you download up to 20 golf course maps on your unit at one time. Simply connect your GolfLogix GPS to your personal computer, and the software walks you through a few easy steps to download golf course maps from the GolfLogix database of more than 15,000 golf courses. What are the advantages of GolfLogix GPS versus other yardage devices?
A handheld GPS device, such as GolfLogix GPS, offers more flexibility during a typical round of golf. You can bring the GPS to the ball and get more accurate distance data. Unlike other laser devices, there is no need to point and aim or have a direct line of sight to the hazard or hole.
How do I get golf course maps on my GolfLogix GPS?
Included with your initial purchase is access to download a single golf course map of your choice. Simply follow the step-by-step instructions in the Quick Start Guide located in the box to download the Course Manager Software from the GolfLogix Web site. Then follow the registration and activation screens on your computer to obtain your free golf course map. With a $29.95 annual membership, you can download an unlimited amount of golf courses worldwide (currently more than 15,000 in the database) and have access to GolfLogix product enhancements and upgrades.
Is using a GPS distance device allowed under USGA regulations?
The USGA and R&A both recently sanctioned the use of satellite-based yardage measuring devices during competition. Specifically, decision 14-3/0.5 allows a committee to permit the use of distance measuring devices by Local Rule. Golfers should check with their golf professional prior to use in a USGA sanctioned event. GPS devices have always been permitted in handicap scoring in recreational rounds.
What's in the Box?
GolfLogix GPS, USB cable, belt/bag clip, 2 AA alkaline batteries, printed instructions

Streamlight Strion Rechargeable Xenon Flashlight without Charger Review

Streamlight Strion Rechargeable Xenon Flashlight without Charger
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned all sorts of flashlights, from the most expensive Surefires, to Streamlights, to Mag and other products and I must say this is truly an outstanding light! The finish is not the same as a Surefire Hard Anodized finish, but it seems to put out the same intensity of light as my Surefire M3Turbo which sells for 2-3 times the cost. The Surefire M3T has seemingly the same intensity but about twice the illumination area as the Strion.I have been so impressed with Surefires that I have owned 10-15 and I still think light for light they're the absolute best.I don't think this Streamlight will compare with the construction standards of a Surefire, but if it comes down to shear light output and the integrity of illumination, this Strion is so good I'm starting to rethink getting another Surefire.(I have quite a few anyway).

Recharging seems to be done in just a few minutes...I can't imagine how much I can save over constantly replacing CR123 batteries at $1.75 each, not to mention how sparingly I've used such lights in the past without wishing to replace batteries.Having a light pattern similar to the Surefire is nice, and having a replacement bulb provided in the tail cap and a cost of about $5.00 to replace the bulb compared to the assembly sold by Surefire has turned my head.

I also have and have used Liteboxes and Vulcans both as a long time owner of these and while serving as a fireman. The Streamlight Survivor (earlier style) was my favorite light, but the Strion reminds me of the light pattern without the size of the Survivor. I recently purchased a Fire Vulcan and was very disappointed in the light pattern with a large area of darkness surrounded by a ring of light.I was searching for a person recently and was so disappointed by the light pattern of the Vulcan that I went back to my vehicle and retrieved my Surefire M3T.If I had the Strion I would have opted for that light instead as I wouldn't eat up the batteries.I also recently purchased as Streamlite Litebox, as I had one of the earlier models with the sealed beam. The newer model has a small replacable lamp and I'm afraid it will have the same light pattern as the Vulcan.Still for a good long-lasting light you can't beat either of these lanterns. All of the Liteboxes, Survivors and Vulcans will take the heat and abuse of being on a fire scene and I think my Survivor went into a training exercise with me where the temp was around 650 degrees. The construction standards are excellent, but the light pattern with these have as of late been disappointing.

The Stiron is everything you would want in a light. It's very very powerful, more so than the G2, 6P, and E2E Surefires, but it doesn't have the construction standards the Surefires have as they're truly the best in construction. The Strion doesn't seem to have the same construction standards, but I'm noticing I'm using the Strion more and more and the Surefires less and less.

Makita ML140 14.4-Volt Pivoting HeadFlashlight Review

Makita ML140 14.4-Volt Pivoting HeadFlashlight
Average Reviews:

I got this work light as a bonus when I bought the reconditioned cordless drill package 6233DWBEL (a great buy!). It's a good work companion and I can't complain about its convenience and performance. It uses the same batteries as the drill and many other 14.4V Makita products. But, this light just doesn't have the same feel of sturdiness as my PorterCable 19.2V work lights. The body and the swivel head mechanism don't appear to be as durable as the PorterCable model. Don't get me wrong. Makita is one of my brands, and I love the drill, but I would not buy this flashlight by itself at the price being asked. Maybe I'm partial to PorterCable, but the bodies of their work lights seem to be better quality.

Product Description:
This Makita 14.4-Volt Flashlight has a handy 4-position head so you can shine straight or angle the light (rather than your elbow) for those awkward jobs. Set the light on 0, 45, 90, or 110 degrees. The POD-shaped handle means the light won't slip out of your hands. This light also uses the same battery and charger (both sold separately) as other 14.4-volt Makita tools. The battery gives you 160 minutes of continuous use on a single charge. It's also compact at less than 11 inches long and, weighing just over a half pound, it won't wear out your wrist. Plus, years down the road when that first bulb finally burns out, you'll just pull the extra bulb (included) from its convenient location in the head of the flashlight and save the day.

EDGE 500 TEAM GARMIN BUNDLE WITH PREMIUM SOFT STRAP HRM SPEED CADENCE SENSOR Review

EDGE 500 TEAM GARMIN BUNDLE WITH PREMIUM SOFT STRAP HRM SPEED CADENCE SENSOR
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a simple, yet effective GPS unit that comes with both heart rate monitor and cadence/speed sensors, all in one box.It doesn't have map mode like Edge 705, however I'm skeptical of usability of a map on 705's small and low resolution screen anyhow (if you want a map, get something like Oregon series GPS).

From my short experience with it, it works great.Setup was a breeze.Turned it on, and it detected both heart rate monitor and cadence/speed sensors all on its own.Setting it up on a bike was a breeze. In about 15-ish minutes I was ready for a test ride. The screen was nice and readable.I'll probably customize it a bit later.Uploading ride data to strava.com was a breeze. All in all, I can warmly recommend this unit.

Be careful when ordering this unit though, since there are three versions and item descriptions are not too clear on what comes in the box for some of them:

- the cheapest one has only the GPS unit, it does not include heart rate monitor and speed/cadence sensors
- standard bundle with heart rate monitor and speed/cadence sensor
- team Garmin bundle with premium heart rate monitor and speed/cadence sensor (this one)

To be sure which one you'll get, it's best to compare part number with part numbers listed on Garmin's web site (click on "versions" tab on Edge 500 page).

Standard Edge bike mount (part number 010-10725-00) *will not* fit Edge 500.Description of standard Edge bike mount will not tell you that. You need Edge 500 specific bike mount (called "quarter turn bike mount", part number 010-11430-00).These two bike mounts are two completely different and incompatible systems.

Two bike mounts are included in the box with the GPS unit.If you only need two, you don't need to order additional one.If you do need additional bike mounts, additional bike mounts are packaged two in a single box too.Item description for bike mount will not tell you this either (read reviews for quarter turn mount, it's mentioned there).

I have researched this device, and it appears to NOT include the battery, or charger, even though the picture includes a 12v battery.
So, buyer beware: unless you already have a compatible system, this is an incomplete product. FYI!
